A new look at Sobremunt, the hardest climb in Mallorca

This video is about the Sobremunt climb, especially near the top of the climb which is quite hard to find amongst the various agricultural estates up there – such as the Sobremunt estate itself.

My original post on “Sobremunt, the hardest climb in Mallorca” also has a shorter slideshow collage, and a little more about the round trip I did, starting at Costa de la Calma, and then through Calvia, Sobremunt itself, Esporles, the Es Grau climb and descent to Puigponent, the Galilea climb and descent to Es Capdella, and finally back to Costa de la Calma.

For this post I have focused on Sobremunt itself, added new music to it (mainly Sia this time, David Guetta last time), and provided some more mapping, climb profiles, commentary and stills.

Sobremunt, bottom to the top of the Strava segment and beyond, and some exploring

Here is some mapping for the ride:

Here are some views of the profile of the Sobremunt climb, from GCN and Cycle Fiesta:

Both GCN and Mallorca Cycle Shuttle rate this climb as “The Hardest Climb in Mallorca” and it’s easy to see why, especially after riding it! GCN (Global Cycling Network) deputed poor young Tom Last to do it for them!

I have also added my Strava analysis for the climb segment (with the embarrassingly slow time!) from the Ma1041 junction to the top of the Strava segment (not actually the top of the climb, but where I met Niels & Peter (in the video).

And finally, just the route for the climb, some landmarks, and start of the descent:-

After a career with several organisations, broadly in IT, I now have more time to follow physics (mainly cosmology) and mathematics again, as well as reviving my cycling, and having more time for skiing.
As I get older, I'm more relaxed about some things, and less patient with quite a few others! It seems quite random, but my interests and prejudices will show as I post more blogs, I suppose. I have used Twitter and Facebook for a while, but I have found 140 (or even 280) characters on Twitter too few to make points in a nuanced way (opinions on Twitter are VERY black and white, and sometimes downright offensive); and FaceBook, while I use it a quite a lot, isn't really a medium for debate.
So here goes with a blog, at last!
